One of our favorite things as a family is walking in the park after a long day of school or work. Getting there is half the mental battle at the end of a long day, but we come to life with a bit of fresh air and laughs as the kids play, the dog does something funny, or we get some good people watching in (you know you do it).
I wouldn't describe myself as anxious; I aim for calm and collect under pressure. Last week, home incidents sent me in another direction. Everything is in place – contractor, insurance, and our home is still operational, but by the weekend, I was disappointed by the timing and challenges ahead.
It's never at the "right time" (whenever that would be), and our little life has experienced enough change for the year in my feeble mind.
The Lord, my bride, and some dear brothers I walk with were quick to remind me of our dependence on the Lord and to trust that his provision has always been sufficient (and more) for my life. If you're like me, you don't look to enter the shadows of doubt, but sometimes we open our eyes and find ourselves there, and that's okay.
By God's grace, I came out of my downer weekend, and I'm reminded that the Lord is at work, and I have much to be grateful for living into his faithful promises.
This season brings a range of emotions for many of us as we enter the holidays. Friends and family dynamics, expectations, and missed expectations. Yet, it's a time to find the deepest wells of gratitude and grace as we consider the promises and faithfulness of Jesus, even if weary.
Maybe it's just a reminder today that you are not at it alone, or you need to reach out to a friend and be reminded of the truth. If you don't have that person to reach out to in your life – I'd be honored to listen.
It's as easy as sending a brief text to a friend and being vulnerable and honest, and it's worth it.
